IFS, the global enterprise applications company, announced that the Energy Utility Corporation, a subsidiary company of the Rwanda Energy Group, has chosen to implement IFS Applications 9 for enhanced corporate governance and improved operational performance. The agreement includes licenses and services valued at approximately $1.2 million.

The Rwandan energy sector is in its second phase of reforms whereby the country’s electrical infrastructure will be upgraded and expanded. As one of the entities spearheading this initiative, Energy Utility Corporation needed to invest in a comprehensive and fully integrated ERP system to achieve enhanced operational efficiency and offer improved customer service.

Following an extensive evaluation process, Energy Utility Corporation chose IFS Applications based on its quick deployment process and post implementation support. The IFS solution will support mission-critical business processes such as financials, payroll, supply chain management, human resources, and project management.

The solution will be implemented in an integrated manner with other commercially supportive systems offered by IFS partner Fluentgrid operating in a consortium

“We were looking for a modern business management solution that could support enhanced organisation control and aid timely decision making thereby fostering efficiency, transparency, and accountability throughout the organisation,” Energy Utility Corporation Head of ICT, Noella Mupole said. “We chose IFS Applications because it matched best with our requirements in terms of functional breadth, scalability, and user-friendliness.”

IFS South Africa Managing Director Gawie van der Merwe added, “We are honored that EUCL has chosen IFS to support its core business processes. IFS Applications is a cost-effective, full enterprise solution that can be used to manage new infrastructure development, monitor programme and project progress and, equally important, leave an asset management legacy for on-going plant and facility maintenance. We are looking forward to supporting EUCL improve efficiencies across its organisation.”

The Energy Utility Corporation Limited also upgraded its pre-paid cash power meter system beginning in August 2016, to help improve efficiency and customer service. The two-week exercise saw the Utility Company upgrade its back-end system with the aim of having a reliable and modern database.

The upgrade was a proactive measure to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in addressing customers’ needs and in ensuring that their database was relevant. This, he said, was part of a greater plan to develop and operationalise a geographic information system which would contain client’s details improving service delivery.

“In the long-run, we envision a system which bears information on the location of our clients, the contacts, their consumption and category. All these will enable us communicate with them individually to warn them of interruptions as well as receive feedback on the issues.”

The Energy Utility Corporation was incorporated to provide energy utility services in Rwanda through operations and maintenance of existing generation plants, transmission and distribution network, and retail of electricity to end-users. The company has main processes feeding into the core business; Policies planning, Marketing planning and development, Distribution planning and development within already electrified areas, Operation and Maintenance of Power Plants, and Transmission and Distribution Networks owned by the utility.
