Synthesis achieves the AWS Migration Competency by helping businesses transition seamlessly to the cloud

Moving to the cloud is not just a technical change, but it’s an organisational transformation.

By meeting the high standards for the AWS Migration Competency, Synthesis has demonstrated not only its technical prowess in complex migrations but also its commitment to optimising operational efficiency and innovation.

Over the years, Synthesis has built up best practice frameworks and architecture patterns to expedite and accelerate the process of getting customers to the cloud.

“Our migration journey started with creating groundwork for projects that later accelerated into workable templates that we could reuse. Most of our clients’ applications were initially on-premises and it took time to engage them in transformation to move to the cloud. Ever since, we have matured our frameworks and confidence by gaining experience across an array of clients,” said Chad Epstein, Cloud Migration Practice Lead at Synthesis.

Obtaining the AWS Migration Competency has stringent requirements that need to be met such as expertise, experience and several validated use cases where you’ve proven your expertise in migrating a significant number of workloads across many different clients to the cloud.

“This is the flagship AWS designation awarded to partners that not only give endorsement and validation to their ability to successfully guide customers in their first step towards real Digital Transformation by moving to the cloud, but also gives Synthesis the ability to issue incredible incentives and rebates to the customer, making this move a lot more appealing, feasible and accessible,” said Ariel Weber, Partner Alliance Manager at Synthesis.

This distinguished accomplishment is more than a badge of honour for Synthesis, it’s a testament to its deep expertise and proven customer success in helping businesses transition seamlessly to AWS.

Achieving the AWS Migration Competency allows Synthesis to serve its customers more effectively by leveraging AWS’s range of powerful tools and services designed for enterprise-grade migrations. Our clients will benefit from our ability to plan, execute and manage migration projects of any scale with agility and confidence explains Chad.

Whether it’s reducing migration timeframes or optimising costs, Synthesis can tailor solutions that align with our clients’ unique business objectives, enabling them to innovate, scale and grow in the cloud.

Some of the benefits to our clients include the following:

  • Streamlined Migration Journeys: Simplifying complex migrations and minimising disruption to your business.
  • Business Agility: Respond to market changes swiftly, with the ability to scale up or down as needed.
  • Optimised Workloads: Fine-tune your workloads for peak performance in the cloud, harnessing the full power of AWS’s innovation.
  • Cost Efficiency: Cost-effective migration that leverages AWS to optimise your expenses in the long run.

“At Synthesis, we recognise that for most organisations in South Africa, we are still very much in a ‘migrate to cloud’ phase, as opposed to on cloud, modernise, optimise and operate. As such, we recognise that being a partner that has proven experience and competence would be critical to our clients’ confidence in choosing us as a partner,” said Paul Spagnoletti, Executive Head: Cloud and Security at Synthesis.

As a validated Competency Specialisation Partner, Synthesis has early access to new product roadmaps and unlocks more ways to engage with AWS experts, earn financial incentives and upskill on AWS.

Migration and cloud operations go hand-in-hand, meaning that migrating to the cloud is the start of the journey that enables the rest of your business objectives. It’s a journey on which businesses take their employees. If you don’t understand fully how the cloud works, then your costs can escalate out of control and your security can be compromised, which is often the fear of many businesses looking to move to the cloud. That’s why companies could need a partner like Synthesis. A trusted partner that helps protect a companies cloud infrastructure by understanding all the best practices of how to work within a cloud environment to avoid any of these cost escalating and security holes.

With Synthesis being an AWS Advanced Partner and having competencies, such as Migration, Microsoft Windows, Security, DevOps and Financial Services, Synthesis can provide its customers with access to programmes such as the MAP (Migration Acceleration Programme) which enables its customers to have access to funding provided by AWS through select partners to offer financial support for big programmes such as Migrations.

This provides Synthesis’s clients with the assurance that they have a partner that they can trust and be assured that their migration will be completed by the best skills in the industry and aligned with the best global practices of AWS.

Migrating to the cloud is an investment now for long-term return. It’s called the migration bubble; an initial investment in migration, but over time there’s a break-even point and then an improvement in costs. By leveraging a partner like Synthesis, the impact of the migration bubble is reduced. With the discounts through the MAP programme, the initial investment is lowered and there is a lower barrier to entry for large-scale migrations which enables you to realise money profits sooner.

Chad Epstein concludes with four tips for migrating to the cloud:

  1. Find the right partner: Synthesis does organisation and technical assessments as part of the technical system to assist our clients in understanding the workings of their current environment and potential opportunities for transformation.
  2. Take a deep dive into your current environment: As a start, you need to first understand what you have, what is operating in the environment and what tools are required to further assess the environment for areas of improvement.
  3. Develop a strategy to prioritise: Usually, the simplest service should be migrated first to test your assumptions.
  4. Monitor your learnings as you go: It is a process of doing bit by bit and moving on to the next step – don’t try to do a Big Bang approach which doesn’t work.
