Node4 signs deal with Virgin Media Business Wholesale to upgrade core network

Node4, the cloud-led Digital Transformation Managed Services Provider (MSP), has announced a major core network upgrade that will deliver a tenfold increase in bandwidth and huge performance gains across the company’s entire managed network and infrastructure services portfolio.

Powered by Virgin Media Business Wholesale’s National High Capacity Service (NHCS) 100Gbps optical fibre service, Node4’s core network upgrade will provide the headroom and agility to continue scaling capacity on demand and at short notice for clients. It will do so while meeting current and projected customer requirements for greater bandwidth, lower latency, higher capacity and even better performance at user, application, network and hybrid infrastructure levels.

“Our core network is the lifeblood of our organisation. But, like any IT infrastructure, it needs investment, maintenance and innovation,” said Glenn Akester, Technology and Innovation – Networks and Connectivity Director at Node4.

“While this upgrade heralds a significant boost in our bandwidth capacity, the benefits extend beyond mere numbers. It will empower our clients to access and utilise services in new and innovative ways –  helping them, for example, embrace AI and high-performance computing with the continued confidence that Node4 will be there to support their infrastructure and connectivity requirements.”

The upgrade, which will see Node4 replace the physical fibre infrastructure between its national network of data centres and points of presence, will also provide the company with a more robust, resilient core infrastructure.

This will enable Node4 to continue delivering a portfolio of exceptional Digital Transformation services that meet the challenges posed by a move away from predominantly on-premises infrastructure to more distributed IT environments. It will also allow clients to incorporate the most suitable platform for their use case, which may incorporate public cloud, private cloud, IaaS and solutions at the edge of their networks.

John Chester, Director of Wholesale-Fixed at Virgin Media Business, said: “We already enjoy a strong and successful relationship with Node4, which dates back over a decade. Node4’s decision to become an early adopter of our new NHCS offering is a testament to the mutual trust and respect that’s developed in that time. An investment of this nature in the heart of its business is also proof of Node4’s sustained drive to push the boundaries in terms of exceptional Digital Transformation outcomes. It shows the company’s unwavering commitment to keeping organisations connected at speed and scale so that they continue to be efficient and effective.” Already underway and on target for completion by March 2025, Node4’s architecture and platform teams are working hard to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for customers.
