A traditional park in Chile has become the first smart plaza in Latin America with 5G technology.
The project at the Eduardo Frei Montalva Park was implemented by Enel X, in collaboration with the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications, the Municipality of La Florid and the University of Santiago.
Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, said: “With the deployment of 5G, Chile will be ready to move strongly towards the development of Smart Cities. The Chilean telecommunications industry has proven to be at the forefront in the region and this test shows the scope that the implementation of the new network will have in favor of urban environments and, consequently, of its inhabitants.”
She explained that “monitoring the flow of traffic, optimizing mobility and ensuring sustainable, economic, social and environmental development are part of the benefits that our country will have by being part of the new digital economy 4.0.”
Karla Zapata, General Manager of Enel X Chile, said: “This Smart Plaza is implemented with communication technologies to share information between the different agents, data that can be collected on devices and analyzed with Artificial Intelligence, with the aim of making better decisions and thus defining public policies.
“As the different technological solutions are interconnected, accidents can be prevented and crime reduced.”
