Red Hat and Samsung collaborate on a new 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) solution

Red Hat and Samsung have started a partnership to offer a Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) solution with enhanced integration and automation capabilities.

This technology is designed to help service providers better manage networks as needed while meeting the demands of 5G through greater flexibility and operational efficiency.

With Red Hat as one of Samsung’s key platform partners, service providers can use this solution to accelerate return on investment while reducing the production risks posed by designing consistent and compatible deployments and operating potentially thousands of sites.

Customers can then use the platform to create innovations based on private 5G networks, Multiple Access Edge Computing (MEC) and 5G core, among others.

As service providers try to compete, increase revenue and successfully meet growing customer demands in a cloud-centric world, open-source software drives 5G RAN.

Samsung and Red Hat are working together to address service providers’ constant need to validate the functionality, interoperability and network performance of an end-to-end vRAN solution.

The purpose of the solution provided by both companies is to offer customers the following:

  • An end-to-end virtualized solution that helps reduce complexity and mitigate operational and implementation risks through enhanced automation and integration functions
  • A future-ready, flexible network capable of adapting to constantly evolving demands, as it allows administrators to apply updates remotely
