New state-of-the-art data center enhances information security for ARCOTEL

In a significant stride towards bolstering the security and efficiency of telecommunications data, the Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (ARCOTEL) in Ecuador has unveiled its cutting-edge data center.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by Vianna Maino, the Minister of Telecommunications and the Information Society, showcased the promising advancements in Information Technology.

The newly established data center promises to deliver superior technology and fortified security measures to safeguard critical telecommunications information. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced systems, this facility marks a pivotal moment in Ecuador’s telecommunications landscape.

During the inaugural event, a detailed technical tour of the new facility was conducted, offering a glimpse into its sophisticated design. Featuring customized electrical systems and precise climate control configurations with backup provisions, the data center is equipped to maintain operational integrity under various circumstances. The installation also boasts a comprehensive visual monitoring system and cutting-edge fire detection and suppression mechanisms. Structured cabling ensures uninterrupted connectivity, and a robust video security system is in place to avert data loss and ensure constant availability.

Minister Vianna Maino underscored the data center’s commitment to cybersecurity protocols and policies, acknowledging their vital role in the digital age. This state-of-the-art center serves a multifaceted purpose, with its most notable function being the repository for data from the country’s mobile operators. Moreover, its servers play a pivotal role in safeguarding national telephone users’ data, including their unique IMEI numbers. This enables swift identification of whether a mobile device has been reported as stolen, lost, or misplaced on the global registry.

Juan Carlos Soria, the Executive Director of ARCOTEL, said: “We now possess a superior infrastructure that aligns with the highest international standards, enabling us to process and store data efficiently, effectively and securely.”

The collaboration between the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology (MINTEL) and ARCOTEL, in accordance with the Ecuadorian government’s visionary policies, is driving the Digital Transformation of the country, offering unparalleled benefits to all citizens.

The new data center represents a significant leap forward in safeguarding vital telecommunications data and underscores Ecuador’s commitment to technological advancement and information security.
