Access to Argentina phone number portability data expands worldwide

A new agreement with Argentina’s Number Portability Committee allows any company operating in the country to access portability information to mitigate fraud, assess risk, detect money laundering risks and optimize business processes.

Portability data benefits all parts of an organization by providing the insights needed to proactively thwart fraud, protect customers and brand reputation, maximize operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.

When banks, retailers, insurance companies, contact centers, and other businesses have access to continuously updated information about phone number portability, they can quickly determine if a number has been recently ported. If it has been, they can request more information from that person to verify if they are a legitimate customer or a scammer. These safeguards can also be applied to processes such as risk assessment for new customers.

“For the first time, any company will have access to accurate and continuously updated Argentine portability data from an authoritative and trusted source,” said Peter Ford, Executive Vice President, iconectiv.

“Portability data benefits all parts of an organization by providing the insights needed to proactively thwart fraud, protect customers and brand reputation, maximize operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance.”

Since 2012, this portability information has been exclusively available to CSPs to support business processes such as routing, pricing, roaming, billing, network maintenance and regulatory reporting.

Under the new agreement with the Number Portability Committee, any company doing business in Argentina can access that authorized portability data.
