TIM and Ericsson announce unprecedented pilot 5G project in Brazil

TIM and Ericsson have announced the launch of a public safety pilot project developed over a 5G Standalone (5GSA) network – the first in a series of 20 pilots that the Ministry of Communications of Brazil (MCOM) will present in the country by the end of the year using 5G in different areas.

The announcement was made at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia, as part of the opening ceremony of Digital Day – an exhibition co-ordinated by MCOM that brings together demonstrations from various companies and examples of how 5G will transform the experience of using technology by the population and provide new business opportunities for different sectors of the economy.

Pietro Labriola, CEO, TIM, said: “This is a great opportunity to present all the potential of the next generation of mobile networks. 5G will be decisive to promote the development of the Brazilian industry, from health, education, security, transport to agribusiness, increasingly connected. We want to support the country’s technological advancement, helping promote digital inclusion. We are prepared to lead 5G, just as we did with 4G.”

Ericsson’s participation in this initiative reinforces its leadership position in the market and the company’s commitment to supporting the evolution to 5G in the country in a simple, safe and cost-effective way.
