Prevention: The key for companies to strengthen their cybersecurity strategies

Cloud computing has drastically changed how we store, share and manage information. This technological milestone has allowed users and businesses worldwide to access millions of data with only an Internet connection. Its impact has been so significant that, according to Gartner, by 2030, cloud-native platforms will form the foundation of more than 95% of digital initiatives.

It has led to a constant drive for innovation, which has prompted companies worldwide to incorporate cloud-native applications into their digitization strategies. However, in this process, many organizations have overlooked an essential factor: Security.

According to a recent study by Cisco AppDynamics, a leading company in application performance monitoring, 70% of technology professionals in the region believe that their organization is now more vulnerable to cybersecurity attacks.

AppDynamics attributes this vulnerability, in large part, to the fact that development, operations and security teams typically operate independently. It undoubtedly damages the performance and the digital services operation, as there is no visibility into the issues affecting each area, and the solutions generated often fail to have the expected impact.

It becomes even more critical when we consider the local context. According to data from Check Point Research, Mexico has been the target of an average of 1,607 cyberattacks per week in 2023 – a 7% increase compared to the previous year.

That, coupled with the fact that 59% of technologists feel overwhelmed by the vast amount of information they receive daily, means that a significant portion of valuable data goes unnoticed – and it delays IT teams from having the data for proper cybersecurity planning.

To counteract this, AppDynamics experts agree that the best strategy is to implement a culture of prevention within organizations. This culture allows them to anticipate and respond efficiently and quickly to any possible threat.

In this regard, the DevSecOps approach is an ideal alternative. This methodology integrates security and operations teams at all application phases and digital service development, ensuring greater efficiency and performance in the final product.

Joao Fabio de Valentín, Director, AppDynamics Latin America, said: “Digital Transformation has forced companies to act quickly. They want to be at the forefront and meet the needs of users and customers. However, not everything is acceptable when it comes to innovation.

It is time for organizations to put security at the center of their strategies, – and what better way to do it than through approaches like DevSecOps, a simple but effective methodology that generates significant benefits and positive impacts.”
