Seamless and uninterrupted

Oman Data Park (ODP) utilised the structured cabling solutions from Commscope with the adoption of the SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH 360 system.

Oman Data Park is a joint venture between Omantel, a telecom services provider in Oman and 4Trust, a data centre company in Oman. As the first managed service provider in Oman, Oman Data Park’s vision is to transform the market to provide a future where IT services are available on demand. Managed hosting, Cloud services, Hosted Applications and Managed services are all available with guaranteed uptime and unparalleled customer support.

This is specifically designed to support locations, such as data centres, to ensure the migration path towards 40GB and 100GB. Since cabling is a vital component of a reliable network, CommScope’s SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D cable for 10 Gigabit Ethernet was installed by ODP alongside the fibre network to achieve redundancy while providing the bandwidth, data throughput and network efficiency that ODP was looking for. The total period for the delivery of the project was nine months.

“In order to provide our clients at the Oman Data Park with a state-of-the art data centre facility, we were looking for a vendor that would be able to supply us with an end to end solution for all our infrastructure requirements at competitive prices while not compromising on the quality and reliability of any component. It was clear to us that CommScope’s solutions were the most robust – as market leaders, their solutions are comprehensive and intelligent”, said Alain Sawaya, General manager Oman Data Park.

The quick and easy deployment of SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH 360 System, their pre-terminated Fibre Solution, enables ODP to cater to all the needs of their clients in one single hosting facility. It allows for simple and rapid deployment of services, which is crucial when providing hosting services to multiple tenants with changing needs in one environment.

This technology is specifically designed to support locations, such as data centres, for that reason and complements the SYSTIMAX LazrSPEED 550 multimode fiber solution deployed to ensure ODP’s migration path towards 40GB and 100GB. The fibre solutions were chosen to future proof ODP’s facility in line with the OM4 standards, while at the same time providing them with the additional bandwidth that some of their clients might require from day one, especially in the oil and gas sector, which requires this level of performance to support supercomputing for seismic data. Furthermore, CommScope’s high density angled panels and fibre solutions save space, which translates into more rentable rack space for ODP.

For this project, CommScope worked with their local partners in Oman, 4Trust, who provide both turn-key and Powered Base Building options. “CommScope is our partners of choice when it comes to data centre solutions. Their aftersales support and on-going assistance has strengthened that partnership. With the regional technical support teams and partner programs, investment is always protected.

The extensive regional presence and high calibre profile are a guarantee that CommScope’s competence is available to assist in any concern. Furthermore, our access to the comprehensive global website and content data base, as well as global client list, made the design of the data centre easier, as the access to sites where the solutions had already been installed, giving the possibility to talk to those clients around lessons learned and ideas on how to do it better”, said Ben Selier, Sales and Technical Director at 4Trust.

CommScope’s intelligent infrastructure management solution has also significantly contributed to ODP’s business success by giving more control over the data centre infrastructure. Being a hosting facility, it is paramount for ODP to keep control over and track and record changes from within the network.

This technology enables ODP to monitor devices, changes and problems on the network as well as automate work orders. It has not only improved process and operational efficiency and productivity, but it has also helped ODP save costs by minimising potential expensive downtime.

“Aside from the concrete data centre solutions, it is the aftersales support and on-going assistance that has strengthened our partnership. With the regional technical support teams and partner programs, we are always available for our customers.

Our extensive regional presence and high calibre profile are a guarantee for ODP that tehy can rely on us to assist them in any concern. Furthermore, we offer access to a comprehensive global website and content data base, as well as global client list, making the design of the data centre easier. We hope that we will continue to collaborate with ODP in the future”, added Jim Curran, VP Enterprise Sales MEA, CommScope.
