Egypt’s ICT sector to increase GDP contribution to EGP 200 billion by 2021

Smart Cities, Ports, and Sports are Egypt’s three key verticals for digital transformation to support economic and job growth over the next six years, SAP announced today at Cairo ICT 2015.

The Egyptian government plans to triple ICT’s GDP contribution from EGP 65 billion ($8 billion) in FY 2014-2015 to EGP 195 billion ($25 billion) in FY 2020-2021, according to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. ICT supports more than 6,500 companies and nearly 1 million jobs in Egypt.

“In Egypt, public-private partnerships that combine government strategies with private sector expertise are urgently needed to drive digital transformation in Smart Cities, Ports, and Sports to drive growth and jobs in the Digital Economy,” said Amr Ghoneim, Managing Director, SAP North Africa and Levant.
