Important changes are being made to Webex, a Cisco product that delivers real-time meetings. To make it easier for teams to meet, Cisco Spark and Webex platforms are being converged.
The result is a new Webex Meetings application and a new seamless team collaboration application called Webex Teams (formerly Cisco Spark).
Cisco is adding its video devices onto the newly converged platform and is adding a new hardware device that turns any work space with a TV into a Webex room.
The company is continuing to apply machine learning and artificial intelligence that will improve the experience of meetings.
A new version of Webex meetings
The Webex Meetings is ‘video first’, meaning users will be strongly encouraged to turn on their camera. It will be possible to see colleagues on mobile, laptop or a Cisco video room device.
Because Webex is delivered through the cloud, updates will occur automatically in the coming months.
A new version of Cisco Spark is launched along with a new name
The team behind Cisco Spark have aimed to make it the simplest yet most secure tool on the web.
Cisco Spark is now known as Webex Teams. Webex Teams offers a set of tools that includes whiteboarding, persistent messaging, simple guest access, content sharing and integrated tools.
A new device turns any space with a TV into a Webex room
Webex Share is a simple way for teams to share content on a TV screen. This is done by plugging a palm-sized adapter into the back of the TV and pairing with the system.
Using Webex Share teams will be able to reserve rooms and know when one is already booked.
Webex Share will be available for Webex Meetings and Teams towards the end of 2018.
Rowan Trollope, SVP and GM, Applications Group, Cisco, said: “Everything we do is designed with people in mind- to help them work, collaborate and create together. That’s why we have invested so much in Webex.
“Our vision is to bring this amazing experience to a billion users and conference rooms all around the world.”
