Mobile devices used by employees have significantly increased organisations’ security risks, said 95% of IT decision-makers surveyed by HID Global, while 83% said malware on employees’ devices was the biggest cause for concern.
More encouragingly, only 5% of survey respondents said their organisations had suffered security breaches in the last 12 months, and 86% already used two-factor authentication systems. And while around a third of organisations forbid or strongly discourage employees’ use of personal cloud for business purposes, only 4% believed using personal devices to access cloud services was a concern.
Away from the security findings, HID’s research has also revealed a shift in organisations’ priorities when it comes to authentication, according to Andrew Lintell, director of sales for identity assurance in EMEA for HID.
“If you look at some of the recent surveys when asking customers what their top decision criteria will be when choosing a new authentication solution, the most interesting thing for us… is for the first time user experience has jumped so far up the request list it’s now second only to cost in people’s decision-making criteria,” said Lintell.
“Security, in terms of the hard level of security, is still very important – but the expectation now is it’s there, it’s secure, and that’s that,” he added.
