Ajman Tourism achieves three new ISO certifications to boost efficiency and sustainability

In its ongoing quest for excellence and continuous improvement, The Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD) has announced the acquisition of three new ISO certifications.

These certifications include the Sustainable Events Management System (ISO 20121:2012), the Innovation Management System (ISO 56002:2019) and the Training and Competency Management System (ISO 10015:2019).

This milestone aligns with the department’s strategic commitment to achieving sustainable development goals and enhancing efficiency across all tourism-related activities in the emirate.

ADTD has taken significant strides in promoting sustainability within its tourism events and activities. It stands as the first local entity within the Ajman government to secure the Sustainable Activities ISO certification, by the international standard ISO 20121:2012. This certification underscores the department’s dedication to improving sustainability prospects and ensuring business continuity, in line with Ajman’s vision for sustainable development across environmental, social and economic dimensions.

The department’s approach integrates the principles of sustainable development into event and activity management, adhering to its mission to establish Ajman as a leading and sustainable global tourist destination and deliver an authentic tourist experience. This initiative supports national sustainable development goals and contributes to Ajman Vision 2030, while aligning with the country’s 2024 sustainability agenda.

Additionally, ADTD has obtained ISO certification for implementing best practices and standards in innovation management, as per ISO 56002:2019. This system is designed to enhance processes and practices that drive customer satisfaction and exceed expectations, fostering a culture of innovation. It provides the necessary infrastructure to support development in various areas, encouraging innovative solutions to challenges and optimising available opportunities.

The department has also achieved ISO certification for the training and competencies management system, according to ISO 10015:2019. This system aims to enhance the effectiveness of training operations, ensuring they meet their objectives through detailed planning, implementation, and evaluation. The expected outcome is improved overall performance and success, linked to enhanced training quality, contributing to human resource development and increased employee productivity. Key elements of this system include thorough training needs analysis, goal setting and effective training organisation, alongside appropriate training content preparation and the use of suitable learning techniques to elevate employees’ skills and competencies in line with the department’s strategic objectives.

His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of The Ajman Department of Tourism Development, said: “We are pleased to be the first local entity in the Ajman government to achieve the ISO certification for sustainable activities according to the international standard ISO 20121:2012, highlighting our commitment to the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.”

“We believe in the importance of developing human resources and enhancing tourism experiences for our visitors. We are proud to continually support innovation and development. These international accreditations reflect our strong commitment to achieving our future goals and vision, reinforcing our position as a leading center in sustainable tourism globally,” Alhashmi added.

With these new international certifications, the ADTD reaffirms its dedication to continuous improvement and the highest standards of quality and sustainability in the tourism sector, underscoring its pioneering role in establishing Ajman as a sustainable and innovative global tourist destination.
