American Tower launches Aggregation Edge Data Centers

In response to the rising demand for the modern Edge infrastructure needed to empower emerging technologies, American Tower has announced its new Aggregation Data Center product.

This revolutionary approach to Edge data centres prioritises a low-latency environment at the network Edge, where businesses are located and provides access to the digital ecosystem from a trusted partner.

Aggregation Edge Data Centers are designed to extend cloud services closer to the Edge. This enables local enterprises to improve business outcomes through advanced performance for modern technologies, such as hybrid cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The company’s first Aggregation Edge Data Center broke ground in Raleigh, North Carolina, in June 2024.

With American Tower having data centre-capable assets at the base of its towers within 50 miles of 99% of the continental US population and the ability to build the infrastructure required to enable low-latency use cases, the Aggregation Edge Data Center model can be replicated in future sites.

Several locations have been designated as ‘shovel ready’, indicating that construction design has begun and Aggregation Edge Data Centers can be rapidly built based on demand.

“American Tower’s approach to Edge infrastructure enables low latency and access to a complete digital ecosystem, including cloud services, in a secure environment,” said Jake Rasweiler, Senior Vice President of Innovation, American Tower. “Emphasising those elements will allow us to deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers who require local data centres in Raleigh and beyond.”

The Aggregation Edge Data Center in Raleigh is expected to be customer-ready in the first quarter of 2025. Upon opening, it will span 4,000 square feet and require 1MW of power. It can deliver 4MW of power at full capacity.
