CAS and Cleveland Clinic have confirmed that the first strategic focus area of their collaboration will aim to advance research on health, wellness and healthy aging.
The initial projects the organizations are discussing will focus on discovering drugs for brain health, a priority characterized by the relative lack of effective treatments that can modify Alzheimer’s disease due to its complex nature.
Lara Jehi, M.D., Director of Research Information, Cleveland Clinic, said: “By combining our strengths, we seek to generate high-quality medical data, validate scientific models and integrate research to ultimately improve patient care and manage chronic diseases.”
This effort will leverage the CAS Content Collection, the world’s most comprehensive curated scientific information resource, with advanced technologies, including new AI and quantum computing models. As part of its partnership with IBM, Cleveland Clinic has the IBM Quantum System One, the world’s first quantum computer entirely dedicated to health research.
The collaborators plan to build and train disease-specific models, starting with Alzheimer’s, and will be focused on advancing preventive and predictive strategies and potentially translating them to other chronic diseases in the future.
“CAS is pleased to partner with Cleveland Clinic, an institution recognized for its exceptional research and innovation,” said Manuel Guzman, president of CAS. “We recognize that it takes 17 years for a scientific discovery in a laboratory to become an approved test or therapy and we are confident that together we can close that gap.”
